What it is

TripWise plans a trip for you. It pulls real flights and hotels from the Amadeus API, uses Gemini to suggest what to do, and gives you a rough budget.

Why we built it

It was our course project, and we picked something we'd actually use: planning a cheap trip takes way too many tabs.

Architecture

TripWise architecture
TripWise architectureThe React progressive web app calls a Node.js API, which pulls flights and hotels from Amadeus and trip ideas from Gemini, then builds an itinerary with a budget and returns it. • request
  1. The web app sends the trip request to our Node.js API.
  2. The API searches flights and hotels on Amadeus.
  3. It asks Gemini for things to do.
  4. The budget builder puts flights, hotels and ideas together.
  5. The itinerary and budget go back to the web app.

The interesting part

I ran the team of four as project manager and did the Amadeus integration myself. The tricky part was turning raw flight and hotel results into a budget you could read at a glance.

What I'd change

I'd cut scope earlier. We had more features planned than a term allows, and the ones we dropped late cost us time.
